AI video for SaaS: one locked product-explainer character, priced per credit

A monthly cadence of four 15-second SaaS feature announcements, one locked host character across every piece, with the credit math on a Creator plan.

Every SaaS explainer SERP in 2026 is the same list of avatar-presenter tools: Ngram, Atlabs, Vyond, Synthesia, HeyGen. Vidico and B2W put the typical cost of a one-minute SaaS feature announcement at $5,400 (median across 242 agencies as of 2026-10-20), and $10,000+ when the brief is 3D-animated. None of the ranking pages publish a per-second credit cost for the AI-render alternative; none publish a monthly cadence for a team shipping four small feature videos a month.

The brief most SaaS teams actually have is not "one big launch video". It is "four small feature announcements a month, same host, 15 seconds each, 9:16 for social and 16:9 for the in-app changelog". That brief does not want a presenter in a stock backdrop. It wants a consistent on-brand character who shows up every week, says one line, demos the thing, and leaves.

Here is how that cadence prices on our shelf.

The one thing the SERP keeps missing

Character consistency is the whole SaaS announcement format. If the same host does not show up every week, the pieces read as four unrelated ads instead of a series. Avatar tools solve this with a prebuilt presenter — HeyGen's Avatar IV, Synthesia's library of 240 avatars, Vyond's branded character templates. The alternative our shelf gives you is a reference-locked character: three to five images of a host you built once (yours, not a preset), used across every announcement forever.

The reference caps:

enginereference cap15s rendering9:16 output
Kling O3 Pro5 elements (@Element1 … @Element5)1 generation (15s cap)yes
Seedance 2.530 images1 pass (no join)yes
Seedance 2.0 Fast9 images1 passyes
Veo 3.1 Fast3 images2 generations (8s cap, enum: 4, 6, 8)yes

For the one-character SaaS brief, Kling O3 Pro is the usual pick — one 15-second generation holds the entire piece and the character is addressed as @Element1 in the prompt. Where the piece needs a product inset, Veo 3.1 Fast silent at 20 cr/s is the cheapest cutaway in the shelf.

The 15-second feature announcement, priced

A single feature announcement, 15 seconds, one host, one product inset, voiced for the opener and close-out, silent for the b-roll under a voiceover:

410 credits per piece. On Creator ($45 / 6,000 credits, 0.75¢ a credit) that is $3.08 per 15-second feature announcement. On Lite ($10 / 1,000 credits) it is $4.10. On Studio annual (0.55¢ effective) it is $2.26.

Compared to the Vidico median of $5,400 for a 60-second SaaS explainer, the four-piece month at 410 cr/piece on Creator is $12.32 of credit for 60 seconds of finished video — three orders of magnitude under the agency median. The pieces are not the same deliverable; the agency job comes with a story team, voice talent, and a round of revisions. The AI-render path is for teams that already have a brand voice, a product capture, and a copy-and-render cadence.

The four-piece month, on each plan

planmonthly $credits/mo410-credit piecesper piecesurplus
Lite$101,0002$5.00180 cr
Starter$182,2505$3.60200 cr
Creator$456,00014$3.21260 cr
Studio$9915,00036$2.75240 cr
Agency$29937,50091$3.29190 cr

For the four-feature-announcement month the brief writes, Starter at $18 is the right plan: five pieces of headroom, $3.60 per 15-second announcement. If the team ships eight pieces a month, Creator at $45 drops the per-piece cost to $3.21 and leaves 14 pieces of monthly headroom for anything else.

The missing axis of every avatar-presenter listicle is this: a per-second render shelf does not charge per minute of talking-head output. If you make a 15-second thing, you pay for 15 seconds of render; if you make a 4-second cutaway, you pay for 4 seconds. The HeyGen Creator plan at $29/mo bills a per-minute avatar meter even when the piece is 15 seconds; our Starter plan at $18/mo renders five of those pieces and keeps 200 credits in reserve.

The host build (do this once)

A reference set is a one-time cost that the whole year rides on. Pick a host style, render a three-image sheet (front, 3/4, mid-shot), save it to the project. Every announcement uses the same three images, so the host identity is identical across generations.

The cheapest way to build the sheet on our shelf:

stepenginecredits$ on Creator
host front 4s silentKling O3 Pro 720p silent96$0.72
host 3/4 angle 4s silentKling O3 Pro 720p silent96$0.72
host mid-shot 4s silentKling O3 Pro 720p silent96$0.72
three-angle reference set—288$2.16

288 credits once. From that point every announcement in the series references the same host, and the credit meter is only paying for the shot itself. The three-image set covers Kling (any 3 of its 5 elements) and Veo (3 ingredient images max). For Seedance 2.5 you can expand to 30 images without rebuilding; the three-image floor already locks the identity for most briefs.

Where the per-second math beats the per-minute meter

HeyGen Avatar IV on Creator ($29/mo) at ~$1.50 per finished minute runs 19 one-minute videos on-plan. Four 60-second finished pieces a month would come to $6 on HeyGen Creator. On our shelf the equivalent is 4 × 60s = 240s voiced 720p on Kling at 30 cr/s = 7,200 credits, which overruns Creator ($45 / 6,000) by 1,200 credits — a top-up of $12.60, call it $57.60/mo all-in on our side vs $29/mo on HeyGen's.

HeyGen wins on a four-piece month of straight 60-second avatar talking heads. We win on the shape of the brief this page actually priced: 15-second multi-shot announcements with product insets and a locked character — four of those a month at $12.32 of credit on Creator ($45 total). The two meters are optimised for two different formats.

The right question for a SaaS team is not "which tool wins", it is "which meter matches your format". A per-minute talking head wins at a per-minute meter. A per-second announcement series wins at a per-second meter. The listicle SERP crosses the two and picks the wrong one.

The decision rule for SaaS feature announcements

Four or fewer 15-second announcements a month, locked host: Starter at $18/mo on our shelf.

Eight-plus a month, or 30-second pieces: Creator at $45/mo (14 announcements of headroom).

One 60-second talking head a week, no product insets: HeyGen Creator or Synthesia — a per-minute meter is cheaper per word spoken.

30+ pieces a month across a product org: Studio annual (0.55¢ effective credit, 36 pieces on-plan).

Our 300-credit free account is enough to render one 15-second feature announcement at 410 cr — short by 110, which is why the usual free run is a 10-second two-shot test. Build your host sheet and run one piece against your product before you commit to a plan.

The $5,400 agency median and the $29/mo avatar meter are the two columns the SERP uses to answer the question. The third column — $3.08 per 15-second same-character feature announcement on Creator — is the one no SaaS listicle publishes, because it is only possible on a shelf that bills per second across five engines.
