Atlabs alternative for AI story videos with the same characters

Atlabs and ReelDouble both make AI story videos with recurring characters. Compare references per scene, Part 2 cast carry-over and a credit price per second.

Why people end up comparing us with Atlabs

When we ask search assistants which AI video tools keep characters consistent, Atlabs keeps appearing, often through its own long guide to the best character consistency tools, published in several languages. It has earned that spot. Atlabs is an AI video platform aimed at animated and narrative videos, with a consistent-characters feature, character voices, and a library of comparison pages against Higgsfield, InVideo, LTX Studio, Pictory and others.

So this page is not about whether Atlabs is good. It is for one kind of person: someone making a recurring story series with the same cast, who wants to know how a character-first studio like ours differs on the details that decide whether episode five still looks like episode one. We are one side of this comparison, so we have kept to facts we can check on both sides and said so where we could not.

What Atlabs says about itself

From Atlabs' own pages and help center, as of 2026-11-02:

  • It offers a consistent-characters feature for AI videos, and publishes guides on keeping character voices consistent too.
  • It bills in credits, charged per generation. Its help center says the cost depends on the workflow, the model and the output type, and that failed generations are not charged.
  • Monthly plan credits roll over only while you stay subscribed; annual plans issue the year's credits up front; enterprise plans pool credits across an organisation.
  • New sign-ups get free credits.

We could not read Atlabs' pricing page directly. Third-party listings disagree: one listing from 2025 data says plans start at $29 a month, and a coupon site from August 2026 lists annual plans at $29 and $59 a month after a time-limited discount. Treat those as unconfirmed and check Atlabs' own pricing page before you budget. Our sources are in our research notes.

What our credits buy, per second

Ours come from one rate file that the studio also uses to print the price under the render button:

engine480p720p1080pvoiced vs silent
Kling O3 Pronot served30 voiced, 24 silentnot servedsilent is cheaper
Veo 3.1 Fastnot served30 voiced, 20 silent30 voiced, 20 silentsilent is cheaper
Seedance 2.0224570same price
Seedance 2.0 Fast2550not servedsame price
Seedance 2.53570130same price

A free account starts with 300 credits. Credit systems are not comparable across sites, so the point is not who is cheaper. The point is that you can work out a scene's cost on paper before you render, and the button shows the same number.

Where a cell says we could not find something, we mean exactly that, not that Atlabs lacks it.

Characters per scene

The number that decides most story scenes is how many named characters fit in one render and still look like themselves. On our shelf each engine has a hard cap, and the studio enforces it before billing:

enginecharacters in one rendertag in the prompt
Seedance 2.5up to 30 reference images@Image1
Seedance 2.0 and 2.0 Fastup to 9@Image1
Kling O3 Proup to 5 elements@Element1
Veo 3.1 Fastup to 3, and the clip is always 8 simage 1

Tag a fourth character on Veo 3.1 Fast and the studio refuses the render and names an engine with room for them, instead of quietly dropping someone. For a two-person dialogue we use Kling O3 Pro. For a crowd scene where several people must be recognisable, Seedance 2.5. Our two characters in one scene page has the prompts.

Part 2 inherits the cast

A consistent character in one video is now possible on most tools. The harder test is episode two, made weeks later. We keep everything that makes a character recognisable in one place:

  • The character sheet, made once for 30 credits and attached to every scene as a reference.
  • The descriptor block, the same short description pasted into every prompt so the outfit and hair do not wander.
  • The voice, chosen from the bank or cloned once, and reused on every render of that character.

When you start Part 2, the cast is already there. You write new scenes and pick engines; you do not rebuild anyone. Our Part 2 guide and series bible template show how we set up a series so it survives a month-long gap.

One episode, on our meter

A 48-second, two-character episode in seven shots, mostly on Kling O3 Pro at 720p:

linecredits
five voiced Kling O3 Pro shots, 32 s at 30 a second960
one silent Kling O3 Pro establishing shot, 6 s at 24144
one 10 s Seedance 2.5 shot for a big moment, 720p700
one retake of a 6 s voiced Kling shot180
captions, one started minute8 (free from Creator up)
export20 (free from Creator up)
episode total2,012

Swap the Seedance 2.5 shot for Seedance 2.0 at 720p and that line drops from 700 to 450. The studio shows the change before you commit, which is the whole reason for pricing by the second.

When Atlabs may suit you better

Stay with Atlabs, or use both, if:

  • You like an all-in-one workflow that takes you from idea to finished animated video with fewer choices along the way.
  • You want failed generations to cost nothing as a stated policy.
  • Your team already works there and shares an enterprise credit pool.
  • You make one-off explainers rather than a series where the same face must hold for months.

When to move the character work to us

Move it if:

  • The same character is in every video and you spend your evenings fixing drift between episodes.
  • Scenes need three or more named characters and you want to know the per-engine limit before you write the scene.
  • You want to pick the engine per shot: a cheap silent Kling shot here, a 30-second Seedance one-take there.
  • You want the price before you render, worked out per second, not after.

The quickest test is to bring a character you already use. Make a sheet from it in the studio, render one 4-second voiced Kling O3 Pro shot for 120 credits, and put it next to your last Atlabs clip. If you are also weighing other tools, our Kapwing alternative and Higgsfield alternative pages use the same comparison.

FAQ

What is a good Atlabs alternative for consistent AI characters?

For a recurring cast across many episodes, ReelDouble locks a character sheet and attaches it to every scene, on engines that take 3 to 30 characters per render, priced in credits per second that you can read before rendering.

How does Atlabs charge credits?

As of 2026-11-02, Atlabs' help center says credits are charged per generation, the cost depends on workflow, model and output type, and failed generations are not charged. Check its pricing page for current plan prices.

How many characters can one AI video scene hold?

On ReelDouble it depends on the engine: Seedance 2.5 takes up to 30 reference images, Seedance 2.0 and 2.0 Fast take 9, Kling O3 Pro takes 5 elements and Veo 3.1 Fast takes 3.

Can I keep the same AI characters in a Part 2 video?

Yes. On ReelDouble the character sheet, descriptor and voice are saved once and reused, so a Part 2 made weeks later starts with the same cast already in place.

How much does an AI story episode cost on ReelDouble?

A 48-second, seven-shot episode mostly on Kling O3 Pro at 720p, with one Seedance 2.5 shot, one retake, captions and export, comes to about 2,012 credits. Captions and export are free from the Creator plan up.
