The short answer
Seedance 2.0 Fast is ByteDance's quicker version of Seedance 2.0. It takes the same inputs, text, a start image or up to 9 reference images, renders 4 to 15 seconds with audio, and gives up a little motion detail on hard scenes in exchange for speed. In ReelDouble it bills 25 credits a second at 480p and 50 at 720p, and it has no 1080p.
The part most pages miss: on our shelf, since Seedance 2.0's price cut on 19 October 2026, Fast is no longer the cheaper of the two. Seedance 2.0 is 22 credits a second at 480p and 45 at 720p. So you choose Fast for speed and quick iteration, not to save credits.
The three Seedance rows side by side
Seedance bills by resolution, and audio is always on, so a voiced second and a silent second cost the same on all three.
| Seedance 2.0 Fast | Seedance 2.0 | Seedance 2.5 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 480p, credits per second | 25 | 22 | 35 |
| 720p, credits per second | 50 | 45 | 70 |
| 1080p, credits per second | not served | 70 | 130 |
| length of one render | 4-15s | 4-15s | 4-30s |
| reference images per shot | 9 | 9 | 30 |
| audio | always on | always on | always on |
What that means for real shots:
| shot | Seedance 2.0 Fast | Seedance 2.0 | Seedance 2.5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8s at 480p | 200 credits | 176 credits | 280 credits |
| 15s at 720p | 750 credits | 675 credits | 1,050 credits |
| 15s at 1080p | not served | 1,050 credits | 1,950 credits |
At the Lite rate (1,000 credits for $10), a 15-second 720p Fast shot is $7.50. At the Creator rate ($45 for 6,000 credits) it is $5.63.
Why the rows ended up this way
Our rates are set from what each engine costs us to run, and Seedance 2.0 moved to a cheaper provider in October. We passed that cut on, which took 2.0 at 720p from 60 credits a second to 45 and at 480p from 30 to 22. Fast was not part of that cut, so it now sits a few credits above 2.0 at both resolutions. The studio still shows Fast on the shelf because speed is a real reason to pick it.
On the open market the picture is messy. Per-second prices for Seedance 2.0 Fast disagree by source: as of 26 October 2026, one API reseller's September press release lists about $0.027 a second at 480p and $0.058 at 720p, and another lists $0.06 and $0.12. ByteDance has no public per-second price page that we could find. That is part of why we publish credits rather than repeat a dollar figure we cannot check.
What Fast is actually for
Across the guides and tests we read, the consensus is consistent: Fast keeps multi-shot prompts, native audio and references, and the gap with full 2.0 only shows on demanding scenes, fast action, complex physics, several references at once. That matches how we use it.
Use Fast when:
- You are iterating on a prompt. If you plan to render the same idea five times to find the right camera move, a quicker return matters more than a few credits.
- The shot is simple. A character standing in a doorway, a slow push-in, a talking moment with one reference.
- You are on a deadline. When the reel has to go out today, a faster queue beats a slightly better hand.
Skip Fast and use Seedance 2.0 when:
- You want the cheapest Seedance second. 2.0 is 22 at 480p and 45 at 720p.
- You need 1080p. Fast stops at 720p; 2.0 serves 1080p at 70.
- The shot is hard. Fights, crowds, water, anything where physics shows.
Skip both and use Seedance 2.5 when:
- The take is longer than 15 seconds. 2.5 runs up to 30 in one render.
- The cast is bigger than 9 references. 2.5 takes up to 30.
We go through 2.5 against 2.0 in Seedance 2.5 vs Seedance 2.0, and 2.5 on its own in our Seedance 2.5 guide.
Is Fast the right draft engine?
For a lot of people, "fast" sounds like "cheap draft". On our shelf there are two better ways to draft cheaply:
| draft option | credits per second | note |
|---|---|---|
| Seedance 2.0 at 480p | 22 | the cheapest Seedance second; same engine family as your final |
| Veo 3.1 Fast, silent | 20 | the cheapest second on the shelf, but 4, 6 or 8 seconds only |
| Kling O3 Pro, silent | 24 | best if the final shot will be a character on Kling |
| Seedance 2.0 Fast at 480p | 25 | when speed matters more than the 3 credits |
The rule we follow: draft on the same engine family you will finish on, at the lowest resolution it serves. If the final is Seedance 2.0 at 720p, draft on 2.0 at 480p. Resolution changes the bill more than the engine choice does, which we laid out in 1080p vs 720p credit math.
Characters on Seedance 2.0 Fast
Fast takes up to 9 reference images, addressed in the prompt by position, so the first image is the first character. That is plenty for one or two recurring characters, each with several angles. A locked character from the studio is handed to Fast the same way it is handed to 2.0, so you can switch between the two on the same shot without remaking anything.
If a scene names more characters than Fast can take, the studio says so before you render and names an engine with more room, which for Seedance is 2.5.
How to try it
Open the engine picker on any shot, choose Seedance 2.0 Fast, set 480p and 8 seconds, and the quote reads 200 credits before you render. Switch the same shot to Seedance 2.0 and it reads 176. Run both once on a simple prompt and decide whether the speed is worth the 24 credits to you; the comparison takes one minute in the studio.
