Reddit story to AI video: acted scenes instead of gameplay, with a 60-second budget

Turn a Reddit-style story into an acted AI video with one recurring character: the rewrite, the word budget per clip, the shot list and the credits for 60 seconds.

The format everyone copies, and the one almost nobody makes

The Reddit story video is one of the oldest formats on short-form: a post read out by a synthetic voice, captions in the middle of the screen, and a clip of someone playing a parkour game or a runner game underneath. Every tool on the first page of Google for this search does exactly that. Paste the post, pick a voice, pick a gameplay loop, export.

It works because the story does all the work. It also means a thousand channels look identical, and the picture adds nothing. A handful of tools have started offering AI scenes instead of gameplay, but none of the guides we read explains how to plan them: how many words fit in a clip, how to split a story into shots, or what the whole thing costs.

That is what this page is. We take a story in the Reddit shape and turn it into an acted video with one recurring character, then price it to the credit.

First, whose story is it

A Reddit post belongs to the person who wrote it. Reading it out word for word on a monetized channel is reusing their writing, and none of the tool pages we checked raise this. We do one of two things:

  • Ask. Message the poster, say what you will make, and credit them in the caption if they agree.
  • Write your own in the shape. The format, not the post, is what makes these videos work: a first-person problem, an escalation, a twist, a question for the comments. Write a story that follows that shape and it is yours.

The rest of this page works either way.

Step 1: rewrite it for the ear

Reddit posts are written to be read, and they read like diary entries: long sentences, asides in brackets, edits at the bottom, "for context" paragraphs. Out loud they drag. Before anything is rendered we rewrite the story to these rules:

  1. Open on the conflict. The first line is the worst moment, not the background. "My sister sold my car while I was at work" beats "So some background, I'm 27 and my sister is 31."
  2. One idea per sentence. If a sentence needs a comma to breathe, split it.
  3. Cut every name but one. The narrator, and at most one other person by name. Everyone else is "my boss", "her husband".
  4. End on a question. "Was I wrong?" is the format's closing line for a reason: it asks for a comment.

Step 2: the word budget

Brisk narration runs about 2.5 words a second. Leave half a second of air at each end of a clip so a line does not start on the first frame or clip at the cut. That gives a budget per clip:

clip lengthwords that fit
4 sabout 7
8 sabout 17
10 sabout 22
15 sabout 35
60 s totalabout 140 to 150

So a 60-second Reddit video is a story of about 150 words. Most posts are 400 to 1,000. The rewrite in step 1 is where most of the cutting happens; if the story will not fit in 150 words, make it a two-part video and end part one on the escalation. Our script length per shot guide has the full table.

Step 3: one character, made once

The acted version needs a face the viewer can follow, and the face has to be the same in every clip. We make the narrator as a character sheet once (30 credits) and attach it to every scene. That one decision is what separates an acted story from a slideshow of strangers.

If the story has a second person who matters, make them a sheet too. Kling O3 Pro takes up to 5 characters in one scene, Seedance 2.5 takes up to 30, so two is never a problem. Our guide to two characters in one scene covers how to keep them from swapping faces.

Step 4: the shot list

Here is a 150-word story split into six shots. The narrator speaks to camera in some and is seen acting in others.

shotwhat we seeline (words)length
1narrator to camera, car keys in hand, furiousthe conflict line (7)4 s
2empty driveway, narrator walks into framethe discovery (22)10 s
3narrator on the phone with the sisterthe first argument (22)10 s
4the sister in her own kitchen, smugher side (17)8 s
5narrator at a table with family, everyone talkingthe escalation (35)15 s
6narrator to camera, calm nowthe twist and the question (30)13 s

Total: 60 seconds, 133 words, two characters. Shot 1 is the hook and is deliberately short; it gets its own clip so it can be retaken alone if it does not land.

Step 5: pick the engine and price it

For dialogue with a locked face we use Kling O3 Pro: 30 credits a second voiced, 24 silent, at 720p. There are two ways to voice the story.

The character speaks every line (voiced clips):

shotlengthcredits
14 s120
210 s300
310 s300
48 s240
515 s450
613 s390
total60 s1,800

Silent clips under one narration track: the same 60 seconds silent is 1,440 credits, 360 less, with narration laid over the cut afterwards. That suits the classic Reddit feel, one voice telling the story while the scenes act it out. Our narration over silent clips guide covers how to time it.

Add the sheets (30 each, made once), and a retake allowance of half again on the clips. We plan a 60-second acted story at about 2,700 credits voiced or 2,200 silent, all in. From episode two the sheets are already made and the character is the same.

Step 6: cut, caption, export

Reddit videos live on captions, because plenty of people scroll with the sound off. We cut the six clips together, add burned-in captions, and export a 9:16 MP4. Keep the caption to one line at a time and put it in the middle third of the frame, clear of the platform's buttons. The 9:16 export guide has the settings we use.

What we have learned making these

  • The hook is the conflict, said by the character, looking at you. We open on a face talking, not a wide shot of a place, because a face reads in the first frame and a place needs motion to make sense.
  • Do not act every sentence. Two or three shots where the character simply speaks to camera make the acted shots land harder, and they are the easiest to keep consistent.
  • Draft the hook three ways. Three 4-second voiced hooks on Kling cost 360 credits, the same as one 12-second clip, and the hook decides whether anyone sees the rest.
  • Series beat singles. Once the narrator exists as a sheet, every new story costs only its clips. A recurring narrator who has a new problem every week is a channel; a different stranger every week is a feed.

If you have a story in this shape already, the quickest test is the hook alone: build the narrator and render shot 1 in the studio. A free account starts with 300 credits, enough for the sheet and two 4-second voiced takes.

FAQ

How do I turn a Reddit story into an AI video?

Rewrite the post for speech, cut it to about 150 words for 60 seconds, make the narrator a reusable character, split the story into five or six shots, render each clip, then cut, caption and export in 9:16. ReelDouble does all of it in one studio.

Is it legal to use Reddit stories in YouTube or TikTok videos?

A Reddit post belongs to its author. The safe routes are to ask the poster for permission and credit them, or to write your own story in the same first-person format.

How many words is a 60 second Reddit story video?

About 140 to 150 words at a brisk 2.5 words a second, leaving a little air at each cut. Most Reddit posts need cutting by more than half to fit.

How much does a 60 second AI Reddit story video cost?

On ReelDouble, six Kling O3 Pro clips totalling 60 seconds cost 1,800 credits voiced or 1,440 silent, plus 30 credits per character sheet. We budget about 2,700 credits voiced including retakes.

Can I use AI characters instead of gameplay footage for Reddit stories?

Yes. Make the narrator a character sheet once and attach it to every clip so the same face acts out the story. ReelDouble keeps the character consistent across Kling, Seedance and Veo scenes.
